Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
The past week has been hot and dry, although not as hot as it has been. Corn and beans continue to look good although they do need some good rain. I see the wheat for the Bee has been shocked and is standing in the field.
From the St. John's/ Kongsvinger parish, there will be joint services at St. John's at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 12.
The newest member of our parish is Keason Cihak, who was baptized at Kongsvinger on July 29 . Parents are Mike and Jen; grandparents are Glen and Judy Heinrichs.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church parish news: Vacation Bible School will be held on Aug. 8, 15, and 22 beginning with a pot luck supper at 5:30 p.m. Please bring a side dish.
Jim Hendricks will be in concert at Trinity Lutheran Church of Cyrus on Aug. 5 at 5 p.m. A free will offering will be collected.
Trinity Lutheran Church of Alberta will have their annual sweet corn feed on Aug. 5 at the church,
On Aug. 6, the Red Hatters will meet at 1 p.m. at Place To Be in Donnelly; the bookmobile will be in town at 3:30 p.m.; the city council meets at the city hall at 7 p.m. and Rendsville 4-H will meet at 7 p.m. at the fire hall.
On Aug. 13, the Donnelly Community Club meets at 7 p.m. at the city hall and the fireman will meet at 7 p.m. at the fire hall.
There will be a meet the candidates for the Threshing Bee royalty at the Donnelly hall on Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
The Stevens County Fair will be held in Morris Aug. 8-12. Dave Lonergan is a member of the fair board.
Congratulations to the Donnelly Fire Department for winning the Morris Fire Department water fights on July 25.
Loren and Kaylene Mecklenburg of Morris and Keith and Sheila Olson of Victoria would like to announce the engagement of their children, Ashley Kate and David Alan. Ashley's grandparents are Marge Klienhans and David Mecklenburg.
Congratulations to Amy Searle on her graduation from Alexandria Technical College on May 9.
There will be an open house bridal shower for Amy Gerber, bride to be of Blake Heinrich on Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in the Gazebo at the Prairie Inn, Morris. Blake is the son of Scott and Beth Heinrich of Morris, his grandmother is Lillian Heinrich. My cousin, Bev Hurlbut passed away on July 29. Many family and friends attended her visitation and funeral.
I was among those who took in the University of Minnesota, Morris green tour on July 27. Later I visited Irene Strand and in the evening watched the Irondale band performance at Big Cat stadium.
On July 28, a good crowd was on hand for the block party at the Threshing Bee grounds. The Rod and Gun Club beat the fireman in softball and Maynard Mau and Doug Cardwell won the bean bag tournament.
A busy summer is coming to an end for our Threshing Bee royalty with only a few parades left. On July 29, they were part of the Waterama parade in Glenwood. Afterwards I watched part of the water ski show. Enroute home I stopped to visit a friend in the Minnewaska Home and Darlene Christoferson and Inga Mae Urke at their homes in Starbuck.
On July 30, Andy Brevig, Steve Fults, and I attended the Stevens County Republican party central committee meeting. The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 27. Anyone willing to sit in the Republican booth at the Stevens County Fair call is asked to contact Laura Carrington at 589-1999.
