Driver flees scene of Highway 27 crash

The State Patrol searched for a driver involved in a hit-and-run crash in Douglas County Saturday night.

The accident happened on Highway 27 near Sandy Hill Road east of Hoffman at about 11:15 p.m.

Timothy Shekleton of Wheaton was driving west on Highway 27 in a 2004 Chrysler minivan when he was broadsided by a 1998 Olds Achieva, which was northbound on Sandy Hill Road, according to the State Patrol.

The driver of the Achieva fled the scene on foot. Authorities searched a nearby cornfield and surrounding areas but were unable to find the driver.

A passenger in the Achieva, Kelsey Nelson, 21, of Barrett, suffered minor injuries, according to the State Patrol.

A passenger in the minivan, Betty Hasse, 51, of Wheaton, also suffered minor injuries.

Shekleton and two others in the minivan were not injured, according to the accident report.
