Duane M. Kindschi passed away at the age of 82, on May 23, 2012 in Pharr, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Morris. Burial will be at Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Duane M. Kindschi was born on Dec. 26, 1929, in McIntosh, S.D. His mother, Alma Elizabeth Kindschi Moulton, was lost during childbirth, along with a twin brother. He was adopted and raised by his maternal grandmother, Wilhelmina Augusta (Nultemeier) Kindschi, and later by his foster parents, Frank and Mamie Hinderks, of Columbia, S.D.
After graduating high school in Columbia, S.D., he received a BA degree from Northern State College, in Aberdeen, S.D., served an enlistment in the Army, and received an MA from the Colorado State College of Education, in Greeley, Colo. He served as a business teacher in the Graceville School District, followed by employment at the Morris Senior High School, where he taught from 1959 until his retirement in 1986. While teaching in Morris, he acted as public address announcer at many Morris Tigers sporting events, including football, boys and girls basketball, and wrestling.
He married Marilyn I. (Morris) Kindschi of Brittan, S.D., in 1960, and they proudly raised three sons in Morris. Duane was active in the community as a member of the Lions Club of Morris, and served as Sunday school superintendent for many years at First Lutheran Church in Morris.
Following retirement, Duane and Marilyn moved to Mission, Texas, where they were active in the retirement village of Mission Bell Resort.
Duane is survived by his three children: Michael D. Kindschi (Kathy) of Tucson, Ariz., Thomas C. Kindschi (Karen) of Fullerton, Calif.; and David F. Kindschi, of Spring, Texas; and grandchildren: Krista Kindschi and Tyler Kindschi of Spring, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn, and by sisters Doris and Vivian.
