Eagle Scout awarded to Morris Scout
Tom Van Overbeke, son of Mark and Betty Van Overbeke of Morris, has been awarded the rank of Eagle Scout.
The award was made during the Eagle Scout Court of Honor, held Sunday, Jan. 13, at the Morris Evangelical Free Church.
An Eagle Scout is a Scout with the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America. Requirements include earning a number of merit badges and demonstrating Scout Spirit, service, and leadership. This includes an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages.
For his Eagle Scout service project, Van Overbeke replaced the seating and back materials on four benches located on the campus mall at the University of Minnesota, Morris.
Van Overbeke has earned 31 merit badges. Among his Scouting activities was working as assistant in the Trailblazers area at Camp Wilderness, near Park Rapids.
Van Overbeke is a senior at Morris Area High School.
