Eagles add two wins to streak

The Morris Eagles amateur baseball team improved to 6-1 on the season with wins over Dumont and Starbuck.

With a 4-0 record in Land O' Ducks League action, the Eagles took sole possession of first place with a 3-2 win over Dumont May 18.

Chad Christianson pitched a complete game allowing only one earned run and striking out six.

Morris struggled a little bit defensively committing four errors.

A highlight of the game came in the fifth inning when with two outs Matt Carrington dove to tip a hard ground ball to short stop Tony Schultz who in turn threw out the runner at first.

Offensively Dan Folie was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Chase Rambow had two hits along with Cory Marquart and Adam Torkelson.

The game ended when Ross Haugen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs.

Starbuck 4

Andy Lembcke pitched five innings allowing three earned runs while striking out five to get the 9-4 win over Starbuck on May 21.

Adam Torkelson picked up the save striking out eight and not allowing a run in four innings of work.

Defensively the Eagles were a little shaky committing three errors.

Offensively Kirby Marquart led the charge going 3-for-4 including a double and four RBIs.

Chase Rambow was 2-for-4 and veteran Todd Hottovy was 2-for-3.

The Eagles totaled 10 hits in all.

Canby got run over by a hot Eagles squad friday night as the Eagles crossed home plate 21 times. The Knights struggled defensively but the Eagles also hit many hard balls. Eric Asche was 3-4 with a homer to get things going in the first inning. The former Rosen slugger also had 4 rbi's on the night. 9 hitter Tony Schultz broke out of a slump to go 3-5 with a double. Torkelson, Folie, Norm Marquart, and John Lembcke also had multiple hits on the night. Norm had a whopping 5 rbi's to get out of his mini-slump. Chase Rambow battled control problems but settled in to not allow an earned run. Carrington closed with 2 hitless innings. The Eagles get Memorial Weekend off and now have a 7-1 record with 7 straight wins and are now 5-0 in league
