Eagles end season in tough loss to Montevideo
The 2014 season came to end for the Morris Eagles on Saturday, Aug. 9 with a tough loss to the Montevideo Spartans in Region 9C action in Rosen.
The Eagles had the lead twice in the game thanks to four Montevideo errors, but couldn't hold onto it in the defeat. The Eagles had the bases loaded in the seventh and scored one run, but were unable to bust the game open, falling 4-3 to the Spartans.
Sam Mattson started the game and pitched seven innings, scattering nine hits with three earned runs and striking out four. Jake Torgerson took the loss in relief, giving up three hits in the eighth.
The Eagles struggled at the plate, only getting five hits in the game off of Montevideo pitcher Eldon Evans. Tanner Picht went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Kirby Marquart, Mitch Carbert and Craig Knochenmus each got a hits for the Eagles.
