Eagles fight for survival in Region 9C Tourney
The Morris Eagles amateur baseball team stayed alive in Region 9C Tournament play even after dropping three of four games.
In the district final Aug. 2, Morris lost its first game in the play offs to Dumont 5-2, forcing a second game.
Dumont put together five hits in a four-run third inning to take a comfortable lead. Morris could only manage four hits in the game, scoring two runs in the final inning.
Morris ended up the No. 2 seed in the Region 9C Tournament after Dumont took the win 5-4.
Four unearned runs sealed the Eagles' fate, as they were one run short. The Eagles did record seven hits, including a double by Eric Asche.
Morris started Region play with a 6-4 loss to Milroy Saturday, Aug. 8, in the double elimination bracket.
The Eagles had 11 hits, including doubles by Asche and Clinton draftee Ethan Armstrong, but could only bring in four runs.
Morris had to win or go home when the Eagles defeated Ortonville 3-2 Sunday, Aug. 9 in Wheaton.
Great pitching and defense, combined with timely hitting, to help the Eagles hold off the Rox.
A joint effort by Chad Christianson and Craig Knochenmus kept the Rox hitters off balance surrendering only six hits.
Kirby Marquart led the Eagles going 4-for-4 at the plate with two homeruns and three RBIs.
