Eagles off to undefeated start

The amateur baseball season started May 3 for the Eagles of Morris. The Eagles team got off to a 6-0 start with wins over Raymond, Clinton, Wheaton, Canby, Madison, and Appleton.

Morris 9

Raymond 8

The Eagles came from behind to defeat Raymond 9-8 in the season opener on the road.

Morris fell behind 4-0, before getting on the board in the fourth inning with two runs. After a four-run seventh inning, the Eagles still found themselves behind after Raymond countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Trailing by one in the ninth, the Eagles rallied for two runs and held the Rockets in the bottom of the inning. Tony Schultz started off with a walk. Andy Lembcke put down a pop up bunt that landed and when the pitcher fielded it he over threw the first baseman allowing Schultz to score all the way from first base with the tying run. Kirby Marquart hit the game-winning RBI to score Lembcke.

Chad Christianson pitched the first five innings. Andy Lembcke ended up getting the win.

Clinton 1

The Eagles opened Land O' Ducks League play with an 8-1 victory at Clinton on May 9.

Christianson pitched his second outing of the year.

The Eagles had a hit in every inning of the game with John Lembcke and Kirby Marquart leading the Eagles with three hits apiece.

Dan Folie helped in both hitting and pitching attacks.

Wheaton 0

The Eagles shut out Wheaton 2-0 in the home opener May 10.

Adam Torkelson kept the Walleye hitters off balance.

Leading the way in hitting was Ross Haugen with two hits and Craig Knochenmus with a key RBI in the seventh to give the Eagles an insurance run.

Canby 3

The Eagles traveled to Canby and came away with a 9-3 win on May 17.

The Eagles' took the lead for good with five runs in the third inning.

Kirby Marquart led the offensive attack with three hits, including a two-run homer in the fourth.

Chad Christianson kept the Knight hitters off balance. Kirby Marquart came to the mound in the ninth to finish up the game.

Eric Asche, John Lembcke, Haugen, and Matt Carrington had two hits apiece.

Morris 7

Madison 2

The Eagles improved to 5-0 with a 7-2 victory May 22 in Madison.

Andy Lembcke and Torkelson shared the pitching duties.

Knochenmus came through with a three-hit game and John Lembcke had a two-out single that plated two runs.

Morris 11

Appleton 2

The Eagles pounded out 21 hits in an 11-2 win over Appleton on May 31.

Christianson allowed five hits in a seven-inning effort and Torkelson finished up to complete the game.

Kirby Marquart, Haugen and Torkelson had three hits apiece and Knockenmus led the Eagles with a two-hit, four-RBI effort.
