Eagles win Wood Division
The Morris Eagles amateur baseball team has won the Wood Division of the Land O' Ducks League with a win over Dumont Sunday. It was the team's second win of the weekend, having defeated the Minneapolis Angels on Saturday.
Matt Carrington picked up a win on the mound and Craig Knochenmus was credited with the save in a 4-1 victory over the Angels.
Carrington gave up six hits and one run while striking out three. Knochenmus struck out four and kept the Angels hitless in three innings of work.
Ross Haugen and Cory Marquart led the Eagles with two hits apiece.
The Eagles' final regular-season game was a slugfest that lasted three hours with 20 runs and 28 hits.
Morris jumped out to a three-run lead in the second inning, only to see it vanish when Dumont erupted for five in the fourth inning. Morris answered back with three more in their own half of the inning to tie the game 6-6. Dumont came back with two more in the fifth, before the Eagles put the finishing touches on the game with four in the fifth inning and added two more in the seventh.
Chad Christianson started and picked up the win. Adam Torkelson pitched the last four innings, giving up no runs to earn the save.
The Eagles were led offensively by Kirby Marquart with four hits in five at bats. Knockenmus had three hits and three RBIs.
