Eckersen is Program Director at KKOK/KMRS radio in Morris, and is morning show host on KKOK.

Hinds, a member of the Adult Mental Health Advisory Council, wrote in her nomination of Eckersen that he worked often and without pay in programs associated with "The Social Club," which helps those struggling with mental illness participate in activities, lessening their isolation and furthering their social skills.

Social Club activities include bowling, dinners dances, movie nights, bingo and other functions, and Eckersen not only worked to help set up the events, he often served to provide entertainment.

The Morris Human Rights Commission unanimously approved selecting Eckerson as the award recipient.

Eckersen will be presented a plaque at an upcoming City Council meeting.
