Eight girls will represent Morris Area on the 2011 Gator swimming and diving team. Nearly 30 swimmers are from Minnewaska.
The Morris swimmers are led by three seniors: McKayla Smith, Hannah Berg, and Chelsey Fangmeier.
The other five include sophomore Emily Ruether, freshman Kelsey Curfman, eighth grader Jena DeRung, and seventh graders Agnes Dieter and Kate Folkman.
New to the team this season is assistant coach Kim Johnson, who will be helping out Linda Hoffman poolside.
The Gators' season starts Saturday, Aug. 27 at Willmar.
Minnewaska will host Litchfield on Sept. 6 and Melrose on Oct. 13. Morris will host Montevideo on Oct. 6 and Sauk Centre on Oct. 18.
The Section True Team meet will be held in Morris on Oct. 15. The Section 6A meet returns to the RFC in Morris on Nov. 11 and 12.
The Gators are still accepting swimmers and are looking for girls who have a gymnastics background and/or a general interest in diving.
"Any girls interested in grades 7-12 are welcome to swim and dive," said coach Hoffmann. "All you need to know how to do is to float and the coaches will take care of the rest."
Questions can be directed to Hoffmann at 320-491-5674.
