Eileen Thorpe, 83, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Unity Hospital in Fridley, Minn.
Eileen Miller was born to Herman and Nora (Flom) Miller on June 26, 1924 in Flom, Minn. She graduated from Waubun High School, and later from the Detroit Lakes Business College with a secretarial certificate; she then worked for the Northstar Dairy Co-op in Detroit Lakes. Eileen married Clifton Thorpe on April 29, 1949 in Twin Valley. They lived in Detroit Lakes, where Eileen was a secretary for Grace Lutheran Church and later worked at the Becker County Veteran's Service Office, where she enjoyed helping people. Clifton died Feb. 24, 1974. Eileen continued to live in Detroit Lakes.
Eileen was an avid reader. She loved to travel, spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cooking and making lefse.
Eileen is survived by four daughters, Nadine (George) Kluzak of Lake Crystal, Minn., Cynthia Thorpe of Columbia Heights, Minn., Annette (Charles) Rhoades of Edgewood, N.M., and Jennifer (Alan) Trebesch of Blaine, Minn.; son Brian (Noreen) Thorpe of Renton, Wash.; six grandchildren; and three brothers, Emmett (Adeline) Miller of Twin Valley, Virgil (Betty) Miller of Billings, Mont., and Charles Miller of Virginia, Minn.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Clifton; brother, Noel; and two sisters, Erna Zimmerman and Elpha Gunderson.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 7 at Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Eric Lemonholm officiating. Interment was in Audubon Lutheran Cemetery, Audubon.
The David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes has been serving the family.
