Entzi earns state appearance
Morris/Minnewaska girls swim and dive team participated in the two-day 6A Section event Nov. 9 in Alexandria.
Lacey Entzi will represent Morris/Minnewaska at the state tournament in the 500-freestyle. Entzi cut ten seconds off her time finishing in second (5:25.43).
Halleigh Thompson also participated in the 500-freestyle and cut three seconds with a 6:27.00.
The 200-yard medley relay comprised of Agnes Dieter, Mason Schlief, Emily Edmunds and Meghan Thoen improved their relay time from Nov. 7 and finished with a 2:10.43. The splits were: 34.95, 35.76, 32.13 and 27.55 placed 11th in the consolation finals.
The 200-yard freestyle relay had a two-second cut with a 1:49.97 from prelims with Kate Folkman, Julia Hoffmann, Bridgitte Weaver and Lacey Entzi, good for 9th.
"We had a good 2nd day swim, I wish we could have squeaked in the championship finals.” Coach Linda Hoffman said.
The splits were: 27.24, 28.73, 26.98 and 27.02.
The 400-yard freestyle relay continued their time drop and placed 7th in the championship heat on Saturday, Nov. 9. The team of Folkman, Thoen, Weaver and Entzi swam a 4:00.06, almost breaking the four-minute barrier. Their splits were 1:00.41, 1:02.01, 59.89 and 57.55.
"That was a fun race for them, they had a nine-second drop from their season best time. Lucky for the coaching staff, all these relay swimmers come back next year." Hoffman said.
In the Individual events, the 200-yard freestyle, Entzi placed 9th with a new school record of 2:02.59. Rachel Erickson placed 32nd and Halleigh Thompson finished 35th.
In the 200-yard IM, Weaver made it to the consolation championships and finished 6th with 2:35.54. Arianna Maras finished 25th place with a three-second time drop and overall 13-second cut from the Conference meet.
Folkman finished with a 26.95 and placed 16th overall in the 50-yard freestyle. Thoen placed 28th place with a new time of 28.44 and Hoffmann swam a 28.86, good for 31st.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Amanda Thompson went out her senior year in style with a four-second time drop and narrowly missed the top 16, finishing at 1:12.57. Ashley Anderson dropped two-seconds with a 1:13.30 and placed 22nd. Erin Edmunds placed 28th and Emily (Edmunds) placed 32nd.
In 100-yard freestyle, Weaver placed 20th with a 1:00.81, Folkman placed 25th and Rachel Erickson dropped time to a 1:03.61 and finished 33rd.
Thoen placed 25th, Ari Maras had the biggest time drop with a 2.5-second cut and placed 27th and Agnes Dieter placed 29th in the 100-yard backstroke.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Schlief had 1.5 cut and finished 24th with a time of 1:20.40. A. Thompson continued her great senior day with a 28th place finish with a personal best time of 1:22.12. Tristin Heald followed in 29th place with a 1:23.42 time.
"We had a great 2-day meet, and now we can savor it for awhile and then we can write down some new individual and team goals." Hoffman said.
