Erickson nominated for Hengstler-Ranweiler award
Chokio-Alberta's Chandler Erickson has been named a nominee for the 53rd Annual West Central Tribune Hengstler-Ranweiler Award.
The Hengstler-Ranweiler Awards are presented annually to the area's outstanding male and female high school athletes.
Erickson is a career .344 hitter with 23 RBIs as the Tigers starting pitcher the last two years and he also picks up innings on the mound. Through the Tigers' first eight ames this season, he had 25 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched and a 3.18 earned-run average.
In basketball, Erickson has started and lettered twice in the Tigers' backcourt and earned all-conference honors once. He averaged 6.1 points and four assists per game during his varsity career and he finished his senior season with 313 career points, 127 rebounds 218 assists and 99 steals, in addition to being voted the team's top defensive player.
In football, Erickson was a two-time starter, letter-winner and all-conference player at wide receiver and cornerback. In his career, he caugh 40 passes for 674 yards and nine touchdowns. On defense, he was in on 91 tackles, made five interceptions and had seven sacks. He was the Tigers' team MVP as a junior.
The award is named after Herb Hengstler and Lefty Ranweiler, two longtime sports editors at the West Central Tribune in Willmar.
There are 43 nominees this year and winners will be announced June 11.
