Expect boys' track & field team to be even stronger next season
The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta boys' track and field team completed another successful season. For the sixth straight year, the Tigers won the Sub-Section championship trophy, which means that outgoing seniors can claim responsibility for that accomplishment.
Seniors Brian Miller and Wade Ehlers have been on the roster all six of those seasons.
Ehlers started out as a thrower, but according to coach Dale Henrich, he worked into being a sprinter.
Miller was a sprinter who also ran in relays.
"He did a good job for us all through his career," said Henrich.
Riley Arndt was on the team for three seasons. His events included high jump, hurdles, relays, shot put, or wherever the team needed him.
"He's one of those kids that could fill a spot," said Henrich. "He's got the athletic talent and ability."
The other senior on the squad, Zach Gibson, joined the team from Chokio-Alberta two years ago as a thrower.
"He put a lot of effort into it," commented Henrich.
This season, those four seniors led the team to win half of the meets and place second in three others, including the West Central Conference South meet.
"We do a good job of representing our conference and section," added Henrich. "It's nice to see that as a team they pull together and do well."
At the section level, the Tigers missed advancing to the state level for the first time in many years.
"A couple kids missed state by hundreths of a second," explained Henrich.
With the help of underclassmen, Henrich expects the Tigers to be strong again next year.
"We didn't go away," assured Henrich. "I definitely think we're coming back."
