Current principal Brad Korn will retire at the end of this school year.

Gagner currently is PreK-8 principal for Battle Lake Public Schools, serving in this role for the past two school years. Prior to that time, he was an elementary teacher and coach in Morris Area from 1988-2010 and taught elementary in McLaughlin, S.D. for two years prior to that.

Gagner has a Bachelor's Degree from Bemidji State University, a Master Degree from the University of Minnesota, and an Education Leadership Specialist Degree from Minnesota State University, Moorhead.

The Morris school district received over 30 applications for the elementary principal position and interviewed eight finalists. The school's interview team had representation from the teaching staff, support staff, district wide staff, administration, and school board.

Superintendent Scott Monson commented, "We had a very good group of applicants and finalists, which is an enviable position to be in. Mr. Gagner's teaching and administrative experience, along with his familiarity with MAES, will serve him well in this new role. I am confident he will do an excellent job for our students, parents, staff, and school district."

The Morris Area School Board will take formal action to approve Gagner's hiring at an upcoming meeting. He will officially begin his duties on July 1, 2012.
