Over the past few years, momentum toward locally sourced food has built here in Morris and across the nation. Young and old alike are developing relationships with those who produce their food. Direct relationships between farmers and consumers foster understanding and strengthen community between community members of greatly different backgrounds. The grand opening of the Morris Area Farmers Market, in its new location at the East Side Park, will provide more opportunities for making these connections.
Farmers from the Morris area will be selling their fresh goods beginning Thursday, June 14 from 3-6 p.m. at East Side Park (E. 7th Street and Colorado Avenue). The Morris Area Farmers Market will continue throughout the summer every Monday and Thursday from 3-6 p.m.
The long anticipated move to East Side Park brings the Farmers Market to a more visible and shaded location. The Farmers Market hopes that the new location will bring in new business from students and Morris residents alike. Farmers and consumers have already expressed enthusiasm for the promising new area.
Michael Peters, a senior at the University of Minnesota, Morris and son of southern Minnesota dairy farmers is excited about the move and the grand opening. "I have been a consistent shopper at the market for the past couple of years and have been pleased with the fresh, reasonably priced, quality goods. What I like the most about the market is the opportunity it gives me to meet the people who grow my food."
All community members are invited to visit the market and see what our growing group of vendors has to offer each week. You can learn more about the market online at www.morrisareafarmersmarket.com.
