Mary Jo was doing farm work at the Carter Charles farm about one mile away when she noticed flames near their home. She called Marvin and asked if he happened to be burning something in the firepit and when he said no, she told him to go outside and check it out. Marvin saw the fire in the hanger and called 911 some time around 7:30 p.m.

When the Hancock Fire Department arrived, the building was fully engulfed in flames, said Hancock Fire Chief Mark Holleman. A call for mutual aid was put out to the Morris Fire Department around 7:45 p.m.

The hanger along with all contents was a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
