Flag Day celebration is back June 14 at East Side Park
The area's annual Flag Day celebration is Sunday, June 14, at East Side Park, in Morris.
To commemorate the adoption of the U.S. flag, the Congress in 1949, by joint resolution, designated June 14 of each year as Flag Day.
Scheduling conflicts forced last year's celebration to be cancelled, but the tradition is back, coordinated by Learning Unlimited.
The program begins at 2 p.m. with a veterans Color Guard march and flag-raising ceremony.
The Morris Community Band, under the direction of Adair Horgen, and the Kiwanis Quartet will perform.
The American Legion Auxiliary Voice of Democracy essay contest winners will read their essays, and others are expected to participate.
Ted Storck will be master of ceremonies, and there will be treats and other items available at the event.
