Francis K. Swanson was born Nov. 10, 1931 in Hettinger, N.D. to Ted and Rigmor Swanson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He died on Nov. 25, 2010 at Stevens Community Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer. He was a US Navy veteran and worked for Two Natural Gas Utilities for 23 years. He was united in marriage to Helen Howard March 22, 1958. He and his wife owned and operated Hancock Hardware 1973 to 1987. He was employed by the Benson HRA from February 1987 until September 2006. He is survived by his wife, a son Michael of Greensboro, N.C.; two daughters Laura (Jon) Marquart of Appleton, and Lisa (Sheldon) Stay of Aitkin; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister Gloria Leatherberry; two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by one son, Erik, and his parents. His body was cremated and a memorial service and burial will be held at a later date at Camp Ripley Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 0029.
