Franco, Chollet receive UMM's Chavez Awards

University of Minnesota, Morris senior Simon Franco and professor Donna Chollett are recipients of this year's César E. Ch?vez Awards. The awards were presented during a campus ceremony April 23.

Franco, of Maracay, Aragua, and Chollett, professor of anthropology, were nominated by Morris campus students for their outstanding leadership and contribution to the Latino Community, Communities of Color and for their support of Worker's Rights.

They were also recognized for personifying the values of service to others, sacrifice, a preference to help the neediest, determination, non-violence, tolerance, respect for life, celebrating community, knowledge and innovation, embodied by the late legendary labor and civil rights leader, César Ch?vez, The César E. Ch?vez Award is presented to one UMM student and one faculty or staff member every year.

Franco is a member of Campus Ambassadors, International Student Association and vice president of United Latinos. He has also worked in the Office of Admissions throughout his UMM experience.

"The César E. Ch?vez Award has been a tradition for the United Latinos group; it is very symbolic," said Viridiana Zuniga-Tepango, president of United Latinos.
