Frazee moves forward with online class options

Moving with the times and hoping to retain and possibly gain students, Frazee-Vergas School is headed forward in going online.

At the last school board meeting, the second in the new format of twice-monthly meetings, the board discussed and agreed to hire a half-time employee to "come in and facilitate the development, research and implementation of an online education program to be offered from the Frazee-Vergas School District," Superintendent Deron Stender said.

The plan is to have the program up and running by next fall.

Although still in the research process, Stender said it may be similar to the Fergus Falls program, but "over the next month or two, we'll be making some site visits to different institutions," he added.

Also at the meeting, the board agreed to certify the preliminary property tax levy, which would increase the maximum limit of 2.8 percent for 2010.

Stender said the increase is due to the construction on the school, the heating and cooling ventilation system and sprinkling system. The levy will be officially certified in December.
