"I really appreciate this honor," said Fulda, who noted that there are many on campus who deserve to receive the award.

In his role as assistant vice chancellor for student life, Fulda oversees the Offices of Residential Life, Student Counseling and Health Services. In addition, he serves the campus as secretary of the Student Behavior Committee and is the campus coordinator for data security training and HIPAA (Health Insurance Privacy and Accountability Act) compliance.

Fulda also works with students on a part-time basis as a counselor in the Student Counseling Office. It was the students who attend Morris who impressed Fulda from the moment he was interviewed for employment and was hired as the Director of Student Counseling Services in 2001. "There were students on the search committee and I also had lunch with student leaders," he remembered. "They were very impressive."

The campus climate of diversity and respectfulness is another reason that Fulda likes it here. "I enjoy working at an institution that not only talks the talk but also 'walks the walk,'" he said. "We celebrate our differences with Pride Week and World Touch Cultural Heritage Week, Asian Awareness Week, Black History Month and the Circle of Nations Indian Association Pow-wow. I've never worked at an institution before where faculty and administrators listen so closely to campus leaders of diversity. This is also true of the Morris community as a whole."

And, Fulda loves "working with dedicated faculty and staff. It's not just a job to people at UMM; they take it on as a calling."

Fulda holds a doctor and master of education in counseling, and a master in business administration from Texas A&M University at Commerce. He also earned a bachelor of arts in history from Lamar University. Prior to coming to UMM, Fulda was Director of Health Services and Counseling at South Dakota State University.

Fulda lives in Morris with his wife Lonna, "who keeps me sane, whole and balanced," he said. His step-children-- April Jensen and Eric Jensen -- both live in South Dakota.
