Last week I had my first opportunity to get a close look at the new playground equipment at West Side Park. I had my granddaughter for a few hours and decided to entertain her at the park. She absolutely loved it.
She was so excited when she saw where we were headed and immediately ran for the brightly colored play set. After climbing around in there for awhile she spotted the extra equipment, the old playground stuff, now brightly painted and ready for young bodies.
I was surprised at how much she liked the old style merry go round and bouncing thing. It seemed that she actually preferred some of the older toys over the new.
It was a wonderful way to use up an hour of time and release some energy. This was made even better by the quiet atmosphere and comfortable setting. I checked out the new shelter and know that this will be something that has potential for many types of gatherings. The RV sites also look great and hopefully will be filled up often.
I understand that the park is not yet totally complete as there is some work on getting the grass to grow and re-assembling some of the other older playground pieces. The park could really use a couple benches near the playground equipment for tired grandparents to rest on while watching the little ones. However, I am sure that will come with time.
All in all, it was a great experience and I am so thankful to the many people in this community who made it possible. You just have to check it out for yourself to see what a wonderful asset it is to the community.
