Gary Hoogendoorn, 54, of Larchwood, Iowa died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008 of apparent heart attack at Sanford Community Hospital in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 at Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Rock Valley, Iowa. Rev. P.L. Bazen will be officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Monday with family present will be 6-8 pm Monday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.
Gary was born July 18, 1954 at Sioux Center, Iowa, son of Gilbert and Cornelia (VandenBrink) Hoogendoorn. He graduated from West Lyon High School in 1973. Gary married Wanda Rozeboom on June 25, 1976 in Rock Valley. Together they lived by Alvord where Gary first worked for Ageson Furniture at Lester and then Gage Farm Supply.
Gary started farming and raising livestock SW of Lester beginning in 1988 when he also worked maintainance at Fellowship Village. Gary was a board member of Lyon/Sioux Rural Water and president of Country Pork.
Gary is survived by his wife, Wanda; three sons, Dustin (Andrea) and children Trent, Grant, and Tara of Morris; Bradley (Sara) and children, Dylan and Carter of Webster City, Iowa; Russell (Debra) and child Ella of Luverne; daughter, Dana Hoogendoorn at home; parents, Gilbert and Cornelia Hoogendoorn of Rock Rapids, Iowa; three brothers, Jerald of Rock Valley; Marlin (Debra), Dennis (Joan) all of Rock Rapids, Iowa; three sisters, Linda Rich of Bel Air, Md., Sheryl (Greg) Steuk of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Connie (Glenn) VandeKamp of Lester, Iowa; mother-in-law, Jeanette Rozeboom of Rock Valley; brother-in-law, Jay (Joane) Rozeboom of Rock Valley, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Jennie (Robert) Boyer of Inwood, Iowa, Carol (Leon) Reekers of Rock Valley, Tami (Scott) Kuehl of Nisswa.
Gary was preceded in death by his father-in-law, William Rozeboom Jr.
