Edward George Hamre was born to Carl and Ora (Engum) Hamre on April 28, 1925 in Atlanta Township, rural Lake Park, where he grew up and attended country school before graduating from Lake Park High School in 1943. He then served in the United States Army during World War II. He returned home and attended Agriculture College in Detroit Lakes. On Oct. 22, 1949 George married Donna Sayler in Atlanta Lutheran Church in rural Lake Park. They farmed in the Lake Park and Audubon areas for many years. He also worked for Powers Construction of Fargo and Miracle Water of Detroit Lakes.

After retiring, George worked for the Fergus Falls Stockyards, WE Fest, Audubon Auto, and for several area farmers. He was a member of the VFW in Audubon and the American Legion in Lake Park. He loved to play cards, solve puzzles, and attend the Steam Thrashers Reunion in Rollag. He and his brother received a Century Farm Award in 2005. He was very dedicated to the VFW, American Legion, and First Lutheran Church. He had an unspoken love for his family and grandchildren. His humbleness, kindness, and hearty smile will be greatly missed.
