Girls defeat Barnesville in final regular season game
In a battle of Section 6A No. 3 seeds, the Hancock Lady Owls defeated Barnesville 52-38 on Feb. 25 in Hancock's final regular-season game.
The No. 3 from the north half of Section 6A, Barnesville, hosted the south's No. 3 seeded Owls.
Hancock owned a slim 26-23 lead at half-time but turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and holding the Trojans to 15 points.
"The girls played outstanding defense the entire night both in the half court and the full court presses," said coach Jodi Holleman.
The Owls were playing without Bree Holleman due to a minor shoulder injury.
"But we came out strong and took care of business and picked up a nice win over a quality team," Holleman said.
Kendra Schmidgall played a strong game with 26 points and 8 rebounds. Freshman Courtney Greiner came off the bench and contributed 4 points, and pulled down 7 rebounds.
"The Trojans did not have an answer in the paint," Holleman said. "I felt that Lindsie Cunningham and Kaylee Voorhees showed a ton of leadership."
The Lady Owls improved to 20-3. On Thursday, March 4, Hancock will host the winner of the No. 6 Ashby and No. 11 Henning on Monday night in Ashby.
The Section 6A South quarterfinals are at the University of Minnesota, Morris PE Center on Saturday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m.
