Girls' placing improves as conference play concludes
Morris Area' girls' golf team finished up the West Central Conference South schedule and started Section 6A play Thursday.
On May 8 the Tigers played two meets at The Crossings in Montevideo.
In the first meet the Tigers placed sixth with a 223.
Minnewaska Area was first with a 143. The next closest score was BOLD's 194.
For the Tigers Keli Pry posted a 52, Amy Rudstrom carded a 53, Emma Roberts had a 59, and Pam Sax rounded out the team's score with a 65.
Minnewaska recorded the top six individual scores, with Sarah Roering winning medalist honors with a 33.
In the make-up meet immediately following, the Tigers held on to their spot in sixth place, this time with an improved score of 213.
Minnewaska Area clinched the conference title taking first with a 149, while Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg came in second with a 177.
Pry posted a 48, Rudstrom carded a 53, Sax had a 54, and Roberts completed the team score with a 58.
Roering had medalist honors again with a 36.
Conference play wrapped up May 12 at Island Pine Golf Club in Atwater.
The Tigers moved up to fifth place with a team score of 233.
Minnewaska Area won the meet with a 167. Benson/KMS came in second with a 196, while BOLD took third with a 221.
Pry carded a 52, Rudstrom posted a 57, Roberts had a 61, and Sax finished with a 63.
Minnewaska Area took the top seven spots, with Emily Roering leading the Lakers with a 39.
At the Section 6AA-West meet May 20 in St. Cloud, Morris Area's Pry qualified to play in the section meet Tuesday.
The event is a two-day, 36-hole cumulative meet. At the end of play on the first day, the top six teams advanced to the next day, and the top 12 individuals not in the top six teams also advanced.
Pry posted a 94 on the 18-hole course.
Teams advancing were Minnewaska Area with a 302; Staples-Motley with a 350; St. Cloud Cathedral with a 366; Albany with a 369; and Wadena-Deer Creek and ROCORI, each tied with a 400.
Minnewaska Area's Emily Roering, Sarah Roering, and Allie Ostrander tied with the top score of 74.
