Funeral services for Gladys Messner of Morris, Minnesota will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Faith Church, rural Hancock. The Apostolic Christian Faith Ministers will be officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery rural Morris.
Gladys Mae Schmidgall was born in Hancock, Minnesota on June 13, 1921, daughter of Henry and Emma (Koehl) Schmidgall. She attended school in Hancock, graduating in 1942. She became a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in November of 1938. Gladys worked at Murphy's Caf then did bookwork for Hancock Concrete.
On July 19, 1942, she was united in marriage to Frank Messner. To this union three sons and one daughter were born. Frank and Gladys lived in the Hancock area until they moved to Skyview Court in Morris in 2006 due to Frank's health. Frank passed away August 9, 2008. In 2008, Gladys moved to the Heritage Apartments in Morris.
Gladys enjoyed walking with Frank, making quilts, embroidering, cooking, baking and traveling with family when they were young and going south in later years. She also enjoyed God's many rich blessings with her precious family and her beloved church family.
Gladys died Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Courage Cottage in Morris. She lived to reach the age of 93 years old.
She is survived by her four children: Sidney (Cheryl) Messner of Hancock, Beirne (Joyce) Messner of Hancock, Henry (Charlene) Messner of Lester, IA and Beverly Minke of Hancock; 19 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; brothers: Wayne (Dorothy) Schmidgall of Morris, Hartzell Schmidgall of Mediapolis, IA, Gilbert (Barbara) Schmidgall of Morris and Gene (Dorothy) Schmidgall of Morris; sister: Darlene Carlton of Bonney Lake, WA; and sister-in-law: Virginia Schmidgall of Morris. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank; her parents; three grandsons: Ben, Nathan and Luke Messner; three brothers: Francis, Richard and C. Don Schmidgall; sister: Estella Moser; two brothers-in-law: Calvin Moser and Gary Carlton; three sisters-in-law: Mabel Schmidgall, Corrine Schmidgall and Marion Schmidgall; and two nieces: Sharon Schmidgall and Mary Evink.
