Golf season in full swing

The Morris Area boys' golf team, and coach Jerry Witt, got the season started in mid April.

There are nine teams in the West Central Conference South and by the end of the season the boys will have played on nine different golf courses.

The boys' first conference meet was at the Olivia Golf Club hosted by BOLD on April 16.

The Tiger team score of 175 put them in sixth place that day.

Tyler Meichsner carded a 40. Jordan Kolden had a 42. Tim Ostby posted a 45. Travis Tonn finished the day with a 48.

Other scores included a 50 for John Nissen and a 56 for Aaron Goulet.

The BOLD Warriors took first on their home course with a 169. The match's medalist was Tyler Jansvold of Yellow Medicine East with a 38.

On April 20 the boys travelled to the Minnewaska Golf Club. The Tigers took eighth place with a score of 192.

Meichsner carded a 43. Ostby posted a 48. Tonn had a 50. Nissen completed the team score with a 51.

Other Tiger scores were a 66 for Goulet and a 69 for Andrew Rentz.

Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg placed first at Minnewaska with a 178. Medalist honors again went to Jensvold with a 38.

At the Appleton Golf Club on April 23, the Tigers moved up to take sixth place with a score of 178.

Meichsner carded a 38 to tie with Pierced Peters of Minnewaska for second place individually at the match.

Ostby and Nissen each carded a 46, while Kolden posted a 48. The other Tiger scores were another 48 for Corey O'Keefe and a 54 for Tonn.

Benson/K-M-S won the Lac qui Parle Valley match with a score of 169. Jensvold was the medalist again with a 36.

The Tigers hosted a conference match on Tuesday at the Pomme de Terre Golf Club.

The Tigers took fourth place at their home course with a score of 184.

Meichsner posted a 43, which tied him for fifth place individually.

Kolden posted a 46, O'Keefe carded a 47, and Nissen had a 48 to complete the team score.

The other Tiger score was a 58 for Rentz.

Benson/K-M-S won the match with a 174 and the Braves' Sam Peterson took first on the individual leaderboard carding a 39.
