University of Minnesota, Morris junior running back Todd Gramenz has been named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference football offensive player of the week, announced (Sept. 7) by the league office.
Gramenz led the Cougars to a 49-19 season opening win over MacMurray College on Sept. 4, scoring three touchdowns and gaining 149 yard on 26 carries. On the Cougars' second series on offense, Gramenz took the ball down the field almost all by himself, turning a 26-yard run and successive 34-yard touchdown run into a two-play 60-yard scoring drive to put UMM up 6-0 early.
Gramenz went on to score twice more on the day, adding scoring plays of six and seven yards respectivley in the second half.
Gramenz led an offensive attack that gained 291 yards on the ground and 438 total yards. The rushing mark was the most for the Cougars since UMM gained 418 yards on the ground early in the 2007 season. In the passing game, he was also a factor, leading the team with 51 receiving yards on three receptions, including a game high 35-yard catch-and-run, all on his way to a day with 200 yards of total offense.
