
Grove named UMAC Coach of the Year, Cougars' Mehr is Player of the Year
The University of Minnesota, Morris women's basketball team had four players and a coach honored by the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference after finishing the league schedule 14-0.
Emily Mehrwas named the UMAC Player of the Year after a great senior season andTim Grovewas named the UMAC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career.
Mehr was a First Team All-UMAC player in addition to being the UMAC Player of the Year. Emily led the UMAC with 21.1 points per game while shooting 50.8 percent from the field which ranks third in the UMAC. She was 12thin the nation in points per game and 36thin field-goal shooting. In addition, she hit 40 three pointers and led the UMAC in free-throw percentage. Her 85.2 percent from the stripe was 29thin the nation.
Kendra Wycoffwas named to the first team as well after averaging 14.8 points per game, which was fourth in the conference. Wycoff scored 443 points on the season and hit 68 three pointers on the year, which was second in the UMAC. Her 2.65 made three pointers per game ranks 23rdin the NCAA.
Kayla Kraemerwas named the UMAC Freshman of the Year. She is the second straight Minnesota Morris player to win the award after Wycoff was the Co-Freshman of the Year last season. Kraemer finished the season with 227 points in her freshman year on 34.4 percent shooting from the field.
Abby Fragodtwas named to the All-Defensive Team, as well as an honorable mention player. Fragodt was second in the UMAC with 10.4 rebounds per game and led the league with 2.2 blocks per contest. Her 2.2 blocks per contest were 46thin Division III. Her 7.4 defensive rebounds per game were tops in the league. She averaged two assists and 1.3 steals per game, as well. Fragodt was also the UMM represenative on the Sportsmanship team.
Grove wins his fourth UMAC Coach of the Year award; it is also the fourth straight season he has been honored with this award. Over the last four years, he has guided his team to a 55-3 record in regular-season UMAC contests.
