Hancock boys upset Henning in opening round

Hancock's strong first half led the Owls to a 53-45 upset over Henning in the first round of the Section 6A-West boys' basketball tournament on Monday.

Hancock was the No. 11 seed and had lost to No. 6 Henning 55-46 on Feb. 25 in Henning.

Dylan Reese paced the Owls with 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Jordan Miller added 15 points and Austin Steege had 11. Michells Algarate led the team with 13 rebounds.

Hancock will now play at No. 3 Hillcrest Lutheran Academy at 7 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals. HLA beat the Owls 62-26 on Dec. 16.

Henning was led Zach Torgerson with 19 points.

It was Hancock's fifth win of the season. Henning's season ends with a 9-16 record.
