The Hancock girls basketball team defeated the Ortonville Trojans on the home court 79-41 on Jan. 15.

The Owls were excited to finally play another home game, only their second game on their home court this year said coach Jodi Holleman.

"The girls came out fired up, took an early lead and never looked back," she said.

Highlights included Kendra Schmidgall shooting a perfect 8 of 8 from the field, Lindsie Cunningham going 4 of 4 from beyond the arc, and Bree Holleman going a perfect 7 of 7 from the free-throw line.

"Lauren Nelson played her best game of the season, scoring 9 points and leading the rebounding with five," Holleman said. "Kaylee Voorhees played aggressive defense and picked off five steals. Illissa Koehl played a great all around game scoring 14 points and pulling down four offensive boards.

"Aria Walstad showed a ton of heart and hustle out on the court the entire night.

"It was great to have four players in double figures and shoot an impressive 48 percent from the field and 14 of 16 from the free-throw line. As a team we only had 10 turnovers on the night."

The win puts the Owls at 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the Pheasant Conference.
