On Thursday, Feb. 24th, the Hancock Owl girls basketball team traveled to Parkers Prairie and defeated the Panthers by a score of 62-40. The Owls jumped out to a quick 19-5 lead with 10:44 remaining in the opening half; however, the Panthers started knocking down treys to get within four points (21-17) with 8:10 remaining. Hancock responded with some tighter presses and went into halftime with an impressive 42-26 lead.
"All of the girls played outstanding defense the entire game" said Coach Jodi Holleman. "It was great to hold Madison Dorn scoreless in the opening half and Kaylee Dorn scoreless in the second half."
Kendra Schmidgall led the way with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore, Courtney Greiner added 14 points and 8 boards. Illissa Koehl scored 13 points and pulled down 5 boards. Aria Walstad scored 7 points and dished out 12 assists. Shae Brown scored 3 points, 2 steals. Olivia Koehl pulled down 3 rebounds. Abby Ascheman played outstanding defense on the bottom of the zone the entire night.
The Owls shot 22 of 44 (50%) on the night and 10 for 14 from the free-throw line.
Tamara Schmidt led the way for the Panthers scoring 16 points, while Kaylee Dorn scored 11 points (all in the first half).
The Owls improved to 22-2 on the season and begin Section 6A playoff action this Thursday. Hancock received the #1 seed and will host the winner of the Wheaton-Herman-Norcoss vs Henning game played on Monday night.
