Hancock girls defeat West Central Area
On Thursday, Dec. 29, the Hancock girl's basketball team defeated the West Central Area Knights on the road by a score of 56-43.
Team Shooting percent for 2s = 19/42 (45 percent)
Shooting percent 3s was 1/9 (11 percent)
Overall percent was 20/51 (39.2 percent)
Free-Throw percent was 15/25 (60 percent)
Total Team Turnovers was 26
"We played a great first half on both ends of the floor," said Coach Jodi Holleman "but the Knights came charging back in the second half and we hit the panic button and started turning the ball over. We work a lot on fundamentals and shooting each day in practice; therefore there are no excuses for turnovers."
Sophomores Sami Schmidgall and Karol Algarate started for Hancock and played some excellent basketball. Sami pulled down five rebounds and Algarate picked off three steals.
"The girls were finally composed in the final three minutes of the game and Kendra Schmidgall made seven free-throws in a row to seal the deal" said Holleman. "As a team, the girls crashed the boards well pulling down 36 rebounds."
The Hancock girls improve to 7-1 overall and played Dawson-Boyd on Tuesday. Kerkohven-Murdock-Sunberg will be coming to town on Friday night for non-conference action.
"It was great to get all of the girls into the game and to see Karol Algarate and Gabbi Nienhaus score their first career varsity points" added Holleman.
Special thanks to By-Lo Gas and Groceries for providing the balls that were thrown out by the varsity starters. Last week against Montevideo, the balls were provided by the Cutting Edge.
