Hancock girls lose to Benson 69-66
On Thursday, Jan. 26, the Owls lost a hard fought battle to the Benson Braves by a score of 66-69.
Team shooting percent of twos was 17/38 for 45 percent. Shooting percent of threes was 5/10 for 50 percent. Overall percent was 22/48 for 46 percent. Free-throw percent was 17/19 for 89 percent.
The Owls led 26-23 in the opening half and led by nine points (39-30) with about nine minutes remaining in the game. At this point, the Braves lit it up from beyond the arc hitting four treys in a row by four different players to take a 42-41 lead with 8:32 left in the game. The Braves finished with 10 treys on the night, 8 in the second half, and played outstanding basketball the entire night.
"The Owls did a great job of attacking the basket in the second half scoring 40 points," stated Coach Jodi Holleman, "but it wasn't enough as our final three point attempt by Schmidgall barely rimmed off. This game would have then went into overtime.
"I was very disappointed with our 28 turnovers on the night. It is too late in the season to be turning the ball over this many times. We will definitely continue to work on our fundamentals and learn from this loss. I was pleased with our free-throw shooting on the night which was 89 percent."
Special thanks to Tractor Barn Clothing and Balloons for sponsoring the balls that were thrown out during the starting lineups. The Owls drop to 12-3 overall.
