If you are looking to do something this weekend there is a 1940s "The Greatest Generation" dance at the Barrett Lakeside Pavilion Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. This program is sponsored by the Elbow Lake Library and the Viking Library System. This is a partnership between Minnesota Regional Public Library system and the Minnesota Historical Society. It is made possible by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fun through the vote of Minnesotans on Nov. 4, 2008. Should be fun and take advantage of these things provided for you by these Legacy Grants.
We all know that life moves quickly. Children grow up too fast, there isn't enough time in a day, and we wonder where the year went, and yet every day has a story. Take time to find that story in the day. This is the last week of summer but before we look forward to fall sit back and celebrate the season past--trials and triumphs, growth and wisdom.
One of my always good late summer things is the tomatoes. (Thank you Swensons and Conroys and daughter Shelly.) We've been eating lots of 'em as it seems that the weather has been just right this year for these guys to flourish. An easy simple dinner of big juicy tomato slices, fresh mozzarella, garden picked basil and ripe avocado all topped with sea salt, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. A baguette for dipping and soaking up juices is optional, but highly recommended as an accompaniment. Making fresh salsa is a great treat also.
Then look forward to many people's favorite season, Fall. Our Minnesota Monthly magazine came today with the main feature being "The 5 most colorful fall drives to travel this season". Come check it out.
See ya at the Library!
