There are some holes in the roof, the music room carpet got lost, and the gym bleachers haven't been installed yet. But the kitchen, shop and art rooms are nearly done, the new lockers are in, the fire alarm system is working, and the entire school has sprinklers - even the walk-in cooler. There are still dozens of construction details to wrap up, but the end is finally in sight for Hancock's two-year, $3 million school expansion.

Hancock feels like a big town to our new Ag/Shop teacher and coach. Adam Steege grew up in Deer Creek with a population of 300, about half the size of Hancock.

15 YEARS AGO

Lynn Nelson will be the new half-time 5th grade teacher and half-time Chapter I lead instructor at Hancock Elementary. She is a native of Chokio and this will be her first teaching position after graduation from UMM in June.

One of Hancock's long established businesses has announced the opening of a branch office along with a change in name. The Hancock State Bank will now be known as 1st American State Bank of Minnesota. The bank will include its office in Hancock along with a new full-service bank in Benson.

40 YEARS AGO

Several projects were undertaken at the Hancock school during the summer. Among them were a new roof on the elementary building and tiling the reading room in the library and exterior and interior painting. One of the most striking improvements in recent years is the transformation of the old assembly hall into a library. The hall was divided into two section.

The engagement and forthcoming marriage of Marcia Rae Oksendahl and Gary Lee Greiner, has been announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Oksendahl. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Greiner are the parents of Gary.

75 YEARS AGO

For the convenience of the relief clients in Hancock and surrounding territory, Mrs. Jean Alger, county relief worker, will open an office in Hancock on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, beginning September 5th. Relief clients in this locality are urged to see her on those days as these arrangements have been made to save the expense of going to Morris. Mrs. Alger will have her office at the Hancock National Bank.

Hancock was well represented at the Stevens County Fair each of the three days it was open and a number of our folks came home with prizes. All seem to think the exhibits were finer than ever this year and many expressed themselves as well pleased with the free acts put on.

100 YEARS AGO

If the vote taken at the meeting called for last Wednesday evening at the school house is any indication of the sentiment of the people, Hancock will have a new school that will be an honor to the village for years to come.

A pleasant social hop was given out at Lake Emily Park last Saturday night and a number of the younger set from the village attended and all report an unusually pleasant time.
