Hancock owls host VB tourney
After a long week of games, Saturday brought the Hancock tournament. On Sept. 29, the Owls hosted a tournament with eight teams competing. The Owls played very well but they also had some mental mistakes.
"Our first game was against Ashby," said Coach Tara Thielke. "The Owls were not mentally focused but as the game went on, their true abilities came out. The hustle and focus that started with Ashby, continued throughout the tournament.
"The second game was with Yellow Medicine East. In this game the Owls played very well together. It was an all around good team effort and win.
"The last pool play game was against a very good Carlton team. This game was a lot of fun to watch, as well as participate in."
Courtney Greiner said, "it was a fun game to play."
In this game the Owls were all over the court diving and digging up balls. Gabbi Nienhaus, Leah Steiner, Sami Schmidgall and Courtney Greiner really helped out at the net with blocks for a total of 18.
The last game was against Morris Area Chokio Alberta. The Owls lost in two but they never gave up when they were down.
"They continued to fight hard," said Coach Tara Thielke. "Overall the Owls had a good tournament and have nothing to hang their head about. Now we have to prepare for our game at Wheaton on Oct. 4."
