The Hancock School Foundation has just celebrated ten years. During those years, over $110,000 has been awarded in grants. The mission statement of “Enhancing and Enriching” the education opportunities for the students of Hancock Public School has been the focus during those years. These grants would not have been awarded without the generous support of many donors.

The Hancock School Foundation board is a group of eight individuals who meet about four times a year to go through grant applications submitted by staff. These applications are for items that will help enrich the eduction of students and community. The members of this group represent many different demographics within our community. They also represent different generations of alumni and staff. The Hancock School Foundation also awards two $500 education scholarships each spring to seniors. The students are asked to write an essay about what they would change at the Hancock Public School to make it a better academic facility. The scholarship recipients this past year were Taylor Holleman and Samantha Schmidgall.

Many of you have heard of the Prairie Fire Children's Theatre that performs every other year in the spring at the school. The theatrical presentation includes about 70 students in our elementary. This opportunity is just one of the many things funded by the donations given to the Hancock School Foundation.

Donations can be given in honor of a member of the community or alumni who has passed away. Donations can also be specified to a specific area such as technology, athletics or the general fund.

Many of the Hancock Public School teachers have realized the benefits of receiving wonderful educational enrichment due to the Foundation. Things such as iPads, SMART Boards, field trips, curriculum supplements, presentations, musical instruments, and much more.

Grants are awarded twice a year, in the fall and in the spring. Every teacher is encouraged to apply. If you are interested in making a donation or if you would like more information about the Hancock School Foundation please contact Ashley Christianson at ashley.christianson@hancock.K12.mn.us. or at the school (320) 392-5621. The foundation members are truly thankful to all those who give and encourages others to be part of this worthy cause as we all 'Work to Continue the Dream'.
