Hancock Track team results
The Hancock boys and girls track teams competed in a number of meets over the course of the last few weeks. There have been some strong performances and improvement in most areas throughout the month of April.
On the girls team, the 4x800 meter relay team has shown improvement in almost every meet posting an April best time of 10 min. 45 seconds at the Morris Invitational placing first. The relay consists of Aria Walstad, Lauren Nelson, Bree Holleman, and Lindsie Cunningham. They have consistently placed in the top three this season.
Individually, Lindsie Cunningham and Lauren Nelson have given the Owls first place finishes. Nelson equalled a personal best of 4'10" in the high jump placing first at the Minnewaska Invitational. Cunningham has placed first in the triple and long jumps this year in various meets while also placing top three in the 800 meters. She also took third at the BBE Invitational in the 400 posting a time of 62.84. Cunningham and Aria Walstad placed fifth and eighth respectively at the Benson Invitational in one of the toughest fields they will see all year with bigger school like Willmar and Marshall competing. Bree Holleman has posted a personal best 6 min. 7 seconds in the 1600 so far while running a solid leg in the 4x800 meter relay. Karol Algarate has improved in both the shot put and discus. She had personal bests in both at the BBE meet. She improved her discus by more than 17 feet that day.
On the boys side, Michells Algarate has consistently placed in the top five in almost all meets in the shot put and discus. After setting a personal best of 124 feet in the first meet of the season, he has had some ups and downs but is starting to improve over the last three meets.
Rosendo Lopez has improved greatly as the year has progressed and is poised to have a good end of the season run. He has competed in the 100, 200, shot put and discus while also running the first leg of the 4x100 meter relay which had a season best of 50.41 seconds at the BBE meet dropping down from their previous best on over 4 seconds. The relay members include Lopez, Seth Nelson, Michells Algarate and Drew Schmidgall.
Sam Roth is the teams most improved runner setting personal bests in almost every meet in the 400 meters.
With the conference and sub-section meets coming up soon, the team is preparing to make a good showing and hopefully more on the section meet in Moorhead State. They are hoping that the hard work the kids put in during March and April will pay off at the end of May.
