The Hancock Owls began their season last Tuesday with a conference match against Ortonville and came away with a 3-0 win. The scores for the match were 25-11, 25-8, 25-12. Kendra Schmidgall led the team with 15 kills followed by Lauren with 6 and Bree with 5. Ali served 16-17 with 4 aces, Bree was 16-18 with 4 aces and Aria was 17-17 with 3 to lead the way. Lindsie led the team with 9 digs and Bree had 8. Courtney Greiner made her first varsity start a good one playing very solid and consistent at the net. She had 2 kills and 2 blocks.

On Saturday we traveled to UMM and played four matches winning three of the four. We started the day with a 2-0 win over West Central 25-22, 25-21. We then were matched up against a solid Sauk Centre team and were defeated 17-25, 15-25. Our next match was against LQPV and we won in 2 games 25-17, 25-17. Our final match of the night was against CAHN and the girls won 25-12, 25-15. Overall, I was happy with how the girls played. We are starting to gain more confidence as a team and working hard. Kendra Schmidgall and Bree Holleman were named on the All-Tournament team.

On Monday state ranked BBE traveled to Hancock. The girls came out strong and played hard in all three games, but fell short with scores of 28-30, 17-25, 26-28. I was extremely happy with the effort that these girls showed by never giving up. We had some great opportunities in both game 1 and 3 to win the game but were unable to put it away. Kendra led the team with 14 kills, Bree had 5 and Lauren had 4 to lead the way. Aria had 25 set assists and also had 3 kills along with going 9-9 serving. Lindsie and Bree both had 10 digs for the night. The girls did an excellent job blocking their big hitters. Kendra and Lauren had 3 ace blocks and Courtney had 2.

We have another tough match against Wheaton on Thursday in Wheaton. We also will be playing on Saturday at Minnewaska for their tournament.
