The Owls Volleyball team had a busy and successful week. We traveled to Herman on Tuesday for a conference match against CAHN and came away with a 3-2 victory. The scores were 25-17, 25-14, 23-25, 26-28, 15-11. The Owls came out strong and took the first two games easily. We fell to two close games in 3 and 4 with poor communication that led to bad passing and mental mistakes. Game 5 went back and forth until Bree Holleman stepped up to the serving line and served points 9 to 15 to finish the game. This was a hard fought match and I was proud of the girls for staying composed and focussed in game five.
Kendra and Bree both had career nights for the Owls. Bree had 21 kills and an impressive 26 digs for the night. Kendra had 30 kills and 14 digs. Our middles, Lauren and Courtney, played a great game at the net recording 7 and 5 kills but more importantly have 9 and 6 blocks to take their hitters out of their offense. Aria recorded 58 set assists for the night.
On Thursday we traveled to Wheaton for another conference match and came away with a 3-0 victory with scores of 25-15, 25-14, 25-21. The girls really came out strong in this game. Our consistent serving and incredible blocking took their passers and hitters completely out of their game and we took advantage of this.
Kendra had 10 kills and 3 ace blocks. Bree had 6 kills and 6 digs. Ali Reese served 15-16 serving with 2 aces along with 1 ace block. Lindsie played good defense recording 5 digs and serving 9-11 with 1 ace. Aria had 15 set assists and 2 ace blocks and Vanessa played solid in the back row having 4 digs. Our two middles really set the pace for this match by again taking their hitters out of their offense. Lauren had 6 ace blocks along with 3 kills and Courtney had 1 ace block along with 4 kills. This was a great team effort by these girls and gave them a great confidence boost.
On Saturday we traveled to Minnewaska for their tournament. We played Benson in the first match of pool play and split with them 25-18, 26-28. We then played Brandon-Evansville and really stepped up our game and dominated them in two games with the scores of 25-13, 25-17. Our last pool play match was against Ortonville and we won 25-8, 25-14. This gave us 1st place in our pool and brought us up against a very tough New London Spicer team for the championship match.
The girls fought hard winning the first game 25-19. We fell 14-25 in the second game. The 3rd game stayed tight but the Owls fell short 12-15 in game 3 ending the day with a 2nd place finish. "I am extremely proud of these girls so far this season especially at this tournament. We played some very tough teams and they played hard and kept fighting the whole day. Our overall record now stands at 8-3-1 and 3-0 in conference play," commented Coach Fehr.
We travel to CGB on Thursday.
