Harrison nominated for Hengstler-Ranweiler Award
Morris Area's Joel Harrison has been named a nominee for the 53rd Annual West Central Tribune Hengstler-Ranweiler Award.
As a member of the Tiger wrestling team, Harrison started three years in the 195- and 220-pound weight classes, lettering three times, and twice earning all-conference honors. He was 28-7 with 10 pins as a senior and he posted a 70-55 career record. He placed third twice in the section tournament.
In football, Harrison was the West Central Conference’s MVP lineman at offensive and defensive tackle last fall for a team that finished 9-1 and was 15-5 in his career. He was in on 74 tackles in his career, despite missing time his junior year with an injury. “We ran for more than 2,300 yards this season and half were behind Joel,” head coach Jerry Witt said.
Harrison helped the Tiger track and field teams that were sub-section champions five times, section champs three times, and conference titlists twice. The team took two True Team section championships and two second-place finishes at state. Harrison has a personal-best of 43-11.5 in the shot put and 135-10 in the discus
The Hengstler-Ranweiler Awards are presented annually to the area's outstanding male and female high school athletes. The award is named after Herb Hengstler and Lefty Ranweiler, two longtime sports editors at the West Central Tribune in Willmar. There are 43 nominees this year and winners will be announced June 11.
