Herb Basil DeVaan, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, high tech
executive, technician, farmer, veteran, and tinkerer.
Herbert Basil DeVaan, age 81, of Minnetonka, passed away peacefully in the company of family. Herb was longtime member of the Chanhassen American Legion Post #580, The Chanhassen Civic Theater, The Minnetonka Clippers Chorus, St Huberts and St. Therese Catholic Parishes.
Born in 1932, and raised in Graceville Minnesota, Herb gave up farming in 1958 to expand on his Navy training as radio technician. In 1960, moving his small family to Chanhassen he started with a burgeoning Control Data
Corporation, where he expanded his interest in cutting edge computer technology. Herb became an executive with CDC and Control Systems selling power plant computer control systems around the world.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Loretta, son Greg, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Survived by children, Gary (Peggy) DeVaan, Jon (Stephanie) DeVaan, Stuart (Barb) DeVaan & Diana (Reggie) Klein; grandchildren, Erik, Ashley (Chase), Juliana, Isabella, Brynn, & Truman; also survived by 2 sisters, and a multitude of nieces & nephews.
Visitation, remembrance and celebration to be held at the Huber Funeral Home in Eden Prairie, MN, (16394 Glory Lane) on Saturday December 28th at 4 p.m,
followed by continuing celebration at the Chanhassen Legion, Post 580, (290 Lake Dr E). Please bring your memories, photos, and stories (actual or otherwise).
