Highway 27 detour between Browns Valley, Wheaton begins June 2
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 27 between Browns Valley and Traverse County Road 6 southwest of Wheaton will encounter a detour when a road resurfacing project begins June 2, weather permitting.
Crews will resurface 13 miles of Highway 27 and replace several culverts. Highway 117 from the South Dakota border to Highway 27 will also be resurfaced as part of the same project.
During the project, Highway 27 will close and motorists will detour to Highway 28 and Highway 75. Only residents or motorists whose home or destination falls within the closure will be allowed to use Highway 27.
Highway 117 will remain open with intermittent lane closures.
Bituminous Paving, Inc., of Ortonville is the prime contractor for the $3.3 million project. The road work is expected to be complete by late July.
When the project is complete, motorists will notice a smoother, safer ride along Highway 27 and Highway 117. This project helps ensure MnDOT’s transportation system will continue to serve the state for many years.
