DETROIT LAKES, Minn. -- Motorists on Highway 59 south of Morris will experience delays when a road resurfacing project and detour begin April 30.

Traffic will use a detour on Highway 28, Highway 9 and Swift County Road 22. Access for local traffic will be maintained throughout the entire project.

Crews will mill, reclaim and resurface the road. During the reclamation process, the existing pavement is recycled on site and used as a foundation for the new surface of the road. This results in cost savings and a longer pavement life.

Construction is scheduled to be complete in mid-June, weather permitting. The project was originally scheduled to begin May 7, but favorable weather conditions will allow the contractor to start the project early.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones. For statewide travel information, visit www.511mn.org, call 5-1-1 or log on to www.mndot.gov.
