Improvised Shakespeare Company the next event in UMM's Performing Arts Series
MORRIS, Minn. -- The Improvised Shakespeare Company (ISC) will perform on Friday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center's Edson Auditorium. This is the third event in the University of Minnesota, Morris' 2012-13 Performing Arts Series. Hailed as "one of the funniest, most amazing things I've ever seen" by the Charleston City Paper Online, ISC promises an evening of off-the-cuff comedy that should not be missed.
Inspired by audience suggestions, ISC spontaneously crafts its plays using the language and themes of William Shakespeare's plays. Any given performance could feature a mixture of doomed lovers, political power struggles, disguises, asides, and sword-fights--all that audiences have come to expect from the Great Bard. Nothing is planned, rehearsed, or written, so each of the plays is entirely new.
Prior to its evening performance, ISC will hold an improv workshop from 3:30 until 5 p.m. in Humanities Fine Arts 125. This workshop is free and open to the public.
Founded in 2005, ISC has been performing its critically-acclaimed show every Friday night for over six years at the world famous iO Theater in Chicago, and it continues to entertain audiences around the globe with its touring company. The company has been featured at a number of festivals, including the prestigious Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal and Chicago. It has been named Chicago's best improv group by both the Chicago Reader and the Chicago Examiner and has received a New York Nightlife Award for "Best Comedic Performance by a Group." ISC was recently honored by the Chicago Improv Foundation as its "Ensemble of the Year."
