(ST. PAUL) - State Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen of Alexandria has been

named to the Governor's Workforce Development Council, a board developed

to prepare workers for a changing economy and ensure an adequate number

of skilled workers are available for Minnesota's employers.

The two-year old council's mission is to analyze and recommend

workforce development policies to the Governor and Legislature for

skills development, use of state resources and effectiveness to ensure a

globally competitive workforce for Minnesota.

"Successful workers will need to be creative and self-disciplined to

adapt to the changing economy. Minnesota must help them bridge the

coming gap with employers to keep our state competitive," said

Ingebrigtsen.

Minnesota industries already are facing labor shortages because of

increasing numbers of retiring workers and fewer replacement workers, he

added.

The 31-member council includes representatives from business, labor,

education, the nonprofit sector, the state legislature, state agencies,

and others with an interest in Minnesota's workforce system. Members are

appointed by the Governor and legislative leadership for three-year

terms.

Members participate in full Council meetings quarterly and committee

meetings monthly or bi-monthly. Ingebrigtsen's first meeting is

February 12.

State Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen encourages and appreciates constituent

input, and can be reached at 651-297-8063, by mail at 123 State Office

Building, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55155,

or via email at sen.bill.ingebrigtsen@senate.mn.
